Here at Howells we are working with a leading contractor to recruit an experienced Clerk of Works to join their team in Maidstone, working on reactive works within Social Housing, this is a 12 week temporary position.

Duties to include:

  1. Ensures properties and sites are regularly inspected to check workmanship and standards of construction comply with quality controls and are compliant with the agreed materials, contract conditions, current legislation and are defect free.
  2. To undertake pre, post inspections, mid-term inspections and health & safety spot checks recommending corrective action where necessary.
  3. To monitor and keep accurate records of progress on site, including a record of any variations, snagging and health and safety records. Accurately update ROCC, MRI and Keystone on the progress of all jobs. Accurately record and acknowledge.
  4. To ensure that works are pro-actively delivered without any defects to the client/customer.
  5. To assist in the preparation and presentation of Key Performance Indicator (KPI) and any other required data/reports to the Repairs Team. Attend progress and monthly contractor meetings as and when required. Monitor contractor progress against programme, record any deviation from the schedule and keep all stakeholders informed.
  6. To ensure that specifications are up to date and meet current legislative standards.
  7. To ensure that all sites and areas where subcontractors are carrying out works, meet the required safety standards, and to take steps to remedy any health and safety issues as they arise. Record all health & safety incidents via internal Health & Safety Team.
  8. Support the Repairs Team to progress repairs in line with procedures, working closely with the Operatives, contractor and residents to resolve.
  9. Establish, develop and maintain effective working relationships with all work colleagues and contractors to ensure a collaborative approach and contributing to meeting the corporate plan objectives.
  10. Provide excellent customer services always and learn and improve services from any customer feedback, satisfaction and complaints.
  11. Constantly looking at ways to improve how we work and the services we provide through a continuous improvement mindset and approach.
  12. Carry out other reasonable ad hoc duties to support the Repairs team which are commensurate with the expectation of the post as directed by the AD of Repairs.

Qualifications needed

  • Formal technical training or education in building construction, HNC or equivalent.
  • Membership of a trades association or The Institute of Clerk of Works (ICWCI) desirable.

Experience required

  • Experience as a tradesperson and/or Clerk of Works.
  • Experience of working in a maintenance or stock reinvestment environment.
  • Experience of providing a customer-focussed, high-quality service.
  • Full driving licence
