Job Title: Legal Indemnity Underwriter

Overview:

An excellent opportunity has with my client, a data-led Insurance firm who are looking to expand their Legal Indemnity Underwriting team as part of a company growth strategy. You will have the opportunity to join an emerging firm fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.

The purpose of this role is to underwrite with confidence residential and commercial legal indemnity insurance and estate administration insurance within agreed authority levels and negotiating and maximising business profitability by means of effective underwriting decisions and techniques.

Duties include:

  • Working with the underwriting team to ensure the highest level of service and technical expertise is provided to clients
  • Assess risk and underwrite all insurance risks in accordance with the company’s guidelines.
  • To gather and assess appropriate information and record in a clear underwriting note/risk summary form on each file, evidencing reasons for recommending insurance and causes of concern
  • Calculate competitive premiums which are reflective of the risk presented.
  • Provide underwriting support to the team, take referrals and mentor the less experienced members of the team as and when necessary
  • Using your delegated authority approve your own, as well as other team members cases on behalf of the insurer
  • Be a mentor and referral point for the junior members of the team including risk referrals and audits

The successful candidate will have/be:

  • 3 years’ experience underwriting legal indemnity insurance
  • Alternatively, having worked for a broker within the industry or having worked as a conveyancing/private client practitioner who is looking to utilise their skills and knowledge on title/estate administration risks within an underwriting role
  • Can demonstrate a vast understanding of defective title insurance and/or estate administration/probate insurance
  • Is analytical and can problem-solve
  • Strong experience of collaborative working, acting decisively and building relationships
  • CII Certificate qualification desirable, albeit not essential
