My client is currently seeking an experienced Secretary to support our renowned Family team at their Maidstone office.

This is a full-time role, Monday Friday with hybrid working options available if required.

60% of your time is required to be office based


The Role

Our Family team deal with mid?to?high level family law matters, complex?financialcases, pre and post nuptial agreement, domestic violence issues and children matters. The team additionally assist with RSPCA matters. As a Legal Secretary, you will undertake a variety of important tasks including, but not limited to:

  • Building relationships with clients and other solicitors/barristers clerks in writing and over the phone

  • Diary management for allocated legal advisors

  • Arranging meetings / appointments including booking meeting rooms and preparing documents ahead of the meeting

  • Using the teams precedents, copy typing or audio / digital dictation

  • Ensuring electronic files are kept up-to-date

  • Opening and closing / archiving files

  • Attending team, and training meetings as required


The team currently consists of 3 other support staff and 9 legal advisors, including Partners, Associates, Solicitors, Legal Executives and Paralegals. You will be expected to work in a team alongside fellow support staff, as well as independently assisting with a range of interesting work.

Are you the right person?

The role would suit an experienced legal secretary, with experience in the family legal environment. You will have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with a professional telephone manner and be able to demonstrate high attention to detail.

You will need to be comfortable working with various IT systems, however training will be provided, and have strong numeracy skills with an ability to understand financial ledgers. This is a busy, high performing team who work to short notice deadlines, therefore you must be adept at managing various tasks at once whilst also being able to prioritise and use your initiative when required. Due to the nature of the work the team is involved in, you will need to understand and demonstrate discretion and confidentiality in your work. Whilst, you will have allocated fee earners, the secretaries work closely as a team and therefore you must be comfortable communicating and working with others to manage workloads.
