key Responsibilities of the Operations Manager:

  • Manage the open spaces team on the day to day operations, with the support of the open spaces team leader, to ensure smooth, efficient and high quality service of all grounds maintenance activities on TDC’s Open Spaces
  • Lead the open spaces team, comprising open space operatives, tractor drivers and sports pitch maintenance operatives, to ensure high quality grounds maintenance tasks are undertaken in an efficient manner, including responsibility for staff workmanship and performance management for continuous improvement
  • Lead on planning of short and long term maintenance and improvement projects on open spaces, preparing necessary reports and plans to assist with their viability and delivery
  • Responsibility for the training requirements and safe operation of the open spaces team through arranging and delivery of training and maintaining up to date training records; in addition to personal responsibility for ensuring up to date knowledge of legislation, policies and procedures
  • Undertake other duties commensurate with the grade of the post as required including acting as second in command for Open Spaces, deputising for the Open Spaces Manager as required, and liaising with councillors, union reps and other stakeholders as required

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Recognised management qualification (Level 3 or above)
  • Recognised horticultural qualification (Level 3 or above) 
  • IOSH Managing Safely/NEBOSH Award or equivalent

Desirable:

  • Membership of a professional horticultural institution
  • Professional waste management qualification
