Senior Quantity Surveyor - Residential Housebuilding

Location: West Malling

Are you an experienced Quantity Surveyor looking for your next career move? I'm working exclusively with a leading residential housebuilder who is looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their growing team. The Role:

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in the commercial team, ensuring that all financial and contractual aspects of projects are managed effectively. You will be involved in procurement, cost analysis, contract administration, and budget management, while also supporting and mentoring junior team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, support, and mentor your team, ensuring their professional development.
  • Collaborate with Land, Development, and Construction teams, attending design and contract meetings.
  • Manage costs and budgets for residential projects, providing detailed financial reports.
  • Assess site staffing levels and build programs to determine preliminary costs.
  • Procure subcontractor packages, conduct pre-order meetings, and negotiate contract sums.
  • Issue variation orders and development changes, while providing cost advice on major variations.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure compliance with contractual agreements.
  • Conduct internal valuations, cost-to-complete forecasts, and margin analysis.
  • Ensure all invoices and payments are processed in line with company policies.

What We're Looking For:

  • HNC/HND in Surveying or equivalent qualification.
  • Proven experience as a PQS / SQS / Commercial Lead within a residential housebuilder.
  • Strong understanding of building regulations, construction methods, and materials.
  • Excellent financial management, budgeting, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and networking abilities.
  • A methodical and detail-oriented approach to work.

Desirable:

  • Degree in Surveying or a related field.
  • Membership or working towards membership of CIOB or RICS.
