Purpose of a Gluing Machine Setter

As a Glue Machine Setter, you will play a key role in the manufacturing process setting and operating the folder-gluers (auto gluing) and Window Patcher as well as taking part in the commissioning of additional gluing machines as required by the business. Contributing to create customer bespoke and stock packaging.

Day to day duties of a Gluing Machine Setter:

  • Perform necessary pre-operation activities to ensure correct machine start-up and operation.
  • To program or set and maintain all gluing and forming machines.
  • Ensure the last carton is as good as the first.
  • Review the job and change glue line depending on the requirements. (Hot and Cold glue systems).
  • Carry out quality spot checks throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Collect and move material for each job as required.
  • All finished cartons are packed safely and securely.
  • All finished /complete boxes are labelled with details including customer, quantity and individual specifications i.e., flavour or variety.
  • Have clear communication with line manager to reports any challenges.
  • Work closely with other machine operators to process jobs efficiently.
  • Review material stock on a weekly basis.
  • Take part in the company stock takes as required.
  • Understand and follow a weekly schedule of works.
  • Follow and contribute to the companies Health and Safety Policies.
  • Follow and contribute to the companies BRC and FSC Accreditations.
  • Passing on knowledge and experience to new starters.
  • Complete job docket and time sheet records accurately.
  • Participate in the company training programme as required.
  • All tools must be returned at the end of each day.
  • Ensure work area is always kept tidy.

Skills of a Gluing Machine Setter:

  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Great housekeeping.
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in packaging manufacturing.
  • Experience working with guillotines would be an advantage.
