Commissioning and Automation Engineer

We are working with an industry-leading company who are seeking a Commissioning and Automation Engineer who is passionate about automation, electro-mechanical systems, and data acquisition for turnkey projects in the automotive testing industry. Each project presents unique challenges, offering the opportunity for engineers to find fulfillment in delivering solutions within cutting-edge automotive and industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities for the Commissioning and Automation Engineer:

- Inspect and troubleshoot electrical installations on-site for custom systems.

- Calibrate and set up electronic data acquisition, electrical, and mechanical systems.

- Configure and tune automotive control loops, such as speed, torque, and temperature controls.

- Modify system configurations and software to meet desired functionalities.

- Follow commissioning procedures and perform necessary checks.

- Work with commissioning and site managers to develop commissioning schedules.

- Travel extensively within the UK and internationally, including occasional trips up to 28 days.

- Support both customers and international engineers with diagnostics and fault finding via phone, email, and remote access.

- Diagnose faults using logged data from customer sites.

Ideal Commissioning and Automation Engineer:

- Strong electrical skills with troubleshooting and diagram interpretation; engineering degree or relevant experience preferred.

- Basic programming knowledge, ideally in C# or Visual Basic, and eagerness to develop further.

- Familiarity with protocols like Ethernet and CAN is a plus.

- Excellent fault-finding and practical engineering problem-solving.

- Willing to work away from home and travel overseas, with 75-100 nights away per year.

Benefits for the Commissioning and Automation Engineer:

- Salary for the Commissioning and Automation Engineer: £28,000 - £45,000 per annum, based on experience.

- Company car allowance after successful probation (typically 6 months), currently £450 per month.

- Overtime pay for hours beyond 39 per week (including travel time) or when working overseas.

- Flexible working hours when office-based. Core hours are 10am-4pm Monday to Thursday and 10am-2:30pm Friday. Note: This is primarily a site-based role with site hours arranged per project.

- Site/overnight/travel expenses covered according to company policy.

- No weekend work required.
