A well-established and expanding organisation in the energy sector is looking for an experienced Financial Controller to join its finance team in Manchester. This newly created role presents an excellent opportunity for a finance professional to play a key role in the business's continued growth and success.

The Role

The Financial Controller will be responsible for managing financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and delivering strategic financial insights to support business decision-making. With strong investment backing and ambitious expansion plans, the company is poised for rapid growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Consolidate financial reports and provide insightful analysis and commentary on performance.
  • Design and implement cost allocation structures across the group to maintain financial accuracy.
  • Ensure financial reporting processes are efficient, consistent, and timely.
  • Oversee cash and banking functions, including forecasting and balance optimisation.
  • Lead financial review meetings with key stakeholders, ensuring financial performance is effectively communicated and challenged where necessary.
  • Collaborate with the CFO to ensure financial targets are met, suppliers are managed effectively, and processes are continuously improved.
  • Ensure compliance with tax obligations, including VAT, Corporation Tax, and CIS returns, in coordination with external tax advisors.
  • Manage the preparation of statutory and management accounts, liaising with external auditors as required.
  • Champion continuous improvement within finance, particularly in automation and efficiency initiatives.
  • Support the development and mentoring of junior finance team members.

About You:

The ideal candidate will be a commercially minded finance professional with the following skills and experience:

  • Fully qualified ACA / ACCA / CIMA accountant.
  • Strong background in financial and management accounting.
  • Previous experience within the utilities, financial services, or renewable energy sector would be beneficial.
  • Proficiency in SAGE or similar accounting software.
  • Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Experience working as part of a cross-functional management team.
  • Strong analytical abilities with a track record of preparing financial reports and business cases.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • A problem-solving mindset with a strong grasp of cost drivers and commercial finance.
