MERJE is seeking an experienced Internal Audit Director for a leading financial services company to spearhead their UK Internal Audit function, working closely with the Global Audit team and play a pivotal role in the UK Market and support the Global Internal Plan

The successful candidate will drive strategy, execute risk-based audit plans, and provide independent assurance to the UK Board.

Location:  North West, South East, or Scotland with hybrid working options. Travel to other UK offices required as needed.

The Role

Key Responsibilities of the Internal Audit Director:

  • Develop and execute risk-based UK Internal audit plans and drive the UK strategy by ensuring all findings are reported and monitored
  • Delivery of objective Internal audit activities ensuring the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management and governance processes.
  • Provide independent assurance on risk management and internal control frameworks
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders and engage on audit delivery
  • Promote risk management and control awareness through proactive coaching
  • Support FCA Consumer Duty principles across all customer-impacting services

Required knowledge and experience for the Internal Audit Director role:

  • Internal Audit or Accounting Qualification
  • Extensive experience in Internal Audit within financial services
  • Demonstrable experience in leading an Audit function operating across the UK
  • Strong knowledge of internal control frameworks, risk management and regulatory requirements
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

This role is registered under the Senior Managers Certification Regime within the UK. The role holder is responsible for meeting the requirements of this regime
