Manchester Staff is on the lookout for a well presented and talented Buyer. This role is key in identifying and selecting products, uncovering new brands, and discovering market opportunities that will drive business growth. The position requires overseeing supplier relationships, ensuring our product offerings align with current market demands, and supporting internal teams to enhance our product portfolio. The ideal candidate will also focus on increasing sales, optimizing product selection, and improving gross profit margins (GPM).

Responsibilities:

  • Representing the company at trade shows, industry fairs, and exhibitions, both nationally and internationally, to discover new products and engage with current suppliers.
  • Confidently leading meetings and product discussions.
  • Spearheading product-related initiatives such as exclusive product launches, ensuring seamless execution across all departments.
  • Supporting the sales team by increasing awareness of high margin products and driving sales to boost the company’s GPM.
  • Nurturing supplier relationships, understanding their capabilities, and visiting production sites to strengthen technical and production knowledge.
  • Offering insights during internal meetings regarding the most suitable suppliers and products based on field knowledge.
  • Identifying product gaps and staying ahead of emerging trends to refine the product portfolio.
  • Managing and inspiring the Samples, Design, and Supplier Resources teams, providing training and mentorship.
  • Suggesting improvements to processes and protocols to enhance team efficiency.
  • Efficiently managing time, handling multiple priorities, and staying composed under pressure.
  • Developing product training sessions to enhance internal team knowledge.
  • Fostering collaborative relationships within the organization and across departments.
  • Collaborating with internal teams and suppliers to resolve supply and demand challenges, ensuring timely resolutions while maintaining excellent service standards.
  • Overseeing departmental budgets for samples, travel, product development, and software.
  • Negotiating favourable terms, prices, and loan agreements to support showroom sample acquisitions and product purchasing.
  • Assisting Directors with supplier and product performance reports.
  • Analysing customer buying behaviours to drive sales and maximize GPM.
  • Preparing for and participating in regular progress meetings with the line manager.
  • Conducting interviews for new team members when required.
  • Continuously contributing to the development of the company’s brand identity.
  • Upholding company values and incorporating them into daily activities.
  • Providing hands-on support when necessary.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience in a buying role, ideally within luxury homeware or interiors.
  • Demonstrated experience in a management position.
  • Strong ability to identify product trends and quality standards.
  • Professional and approachable demeanour with excellent communication skills.
  • Skilled in negotiation and presentation, confident in customer interactions via phone, email, video calls, and face-to-face.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Driven to acquire new business and suppliers, enhancing product selection and GPM.
  • Ambitious, proactive, and self-motivated with excellent time management skills.
  • Commercially astute with strategic insight.
  • Eager to learn and absorb technical and production-related knowledge.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally on short notice.
  • Positive, solution-oriented mindset with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in delivering client-focused solutions and meeting customer needs.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Based in Greater Manchester.
  • Clean driving license and valid passport required.
