Breeding Team Supervisor

The Role:
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Breeding Team Supervisor to join a Biological Resources Unit. As a senior member of the Transgenic Breeding Team, you will oversee the day-to-day management of breeding colonies of transgenic mice. You will ensure that high standards of animal care are consistently maintained in compliance with the Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986. This role involves supervising the team, managing workloads, and ensuring timely completion of tasks while keeping accurate records of breeding performance.

Duties:

  • Coordinate daily activities of the Transgenic Breeding Team, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently.
  • Oversee and manage the breeding and maintenance of mouse colonies, ensuring animal welfare and high service standards.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records in colony management software.
  • Provide support and guidance to staff, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements under the Animal Scientific Procedures Act 1986.
  • Communicate with key staff such as NACWO regarding welfare issues.
  • Participate in weekend and bank holiday rota for animal care and occasionally cover out-of-hours calls.

Required Skills:

  • Personal Licence holder (PIL A, B) with a degree in Biological Sciences or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience in transgenic mouse breeding and colony management.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills with the ability to manage team workloads and maintain meticulous records.
  • Thorough understanding of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986.
  • Experience in supervising staff and working within an IVC facility.


Due to the nature of this role, you will need to undertake an enhanced DBS check and there will be regular travel across the region so access to your own vehicle is essential.
