National Director of Geo-environmental and Geotechnical Engineering

Working Hours: Full-time (4-day week considered)
Team Size: 30 across several UK locations
Overview:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced and motivated National Director of Geo-environmental and Geotechnical Engineering to lead and grow a busy team of experienced engineers across multiple locations in the UK. This is a senior leadership position with the responsibility of managing a skilled team, overseeing operations, ensuring technical excellence, driving business development, and managing financial performance.
Role Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Management: Lead and manage a team of 30 engineers. You will have 6 direct reports, including senior leaders, and be responsible for the overall performance and development of the team.
- Business Strategy & Development: Drive the operational strategy of the department, identifying opportunities for growth, expansion, and business development. Build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, ensuring sustainable business growth.
- Financial Management: Oversee the financial performance of the division, including budgeting, forecasting, and ensuring profitable delivery of projects.
- Technical Expertise: Provide technical leadership and support on complex geo-environmental and geotechnical projects, ensuring high standards of quality and compliance.
- People Management: Manage the recruitment, development, and retention of talent, ensuring the team is well-equipped to meet current and future business demands.
About You:
To succeed in this role, you will be a senior leader with a proven track record of managing multiple teams and locations across the UK. You will have significant experience in geo-environmental and geotechnical engineering, and a deep understanding of both the technical and operational aspects of the business.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Chartered status with a relevant institution (e.g., ICE, CIWEM, etc.).
- Extensive experience in senior leadership roles, ideally as a director or in a similar capacity.
- Proven experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams and complex projects across multiple locations.
- Strong business development, financial management, and strategic planning skills.
- Demonstrable experience in people management and talent development.
- Ability to balance technical and operational challenges with a clear focus on growth and efficiency.
