Service Delivery Manager Purge & Relight

Our Role

As a Purge and Relight Service Delivery Manager, you will manage the safe and efficient replacement of Gas mains within NW CMO delivery of works programmes for your business unit. You will be responsible for a working environment, which ensures the achievement of all safety and environment legislation, engineering and customer standards.

The Purge and Relight Manager oversees and coordinates the safe purging, commissioning, and relighting of gas mains during replacement projects. The role ensures all work complies with health, safety, and environmental regulations and achieves customer satisfaction through quality service delivery.

You will provide operational leadership ensuring that the work is delivered safely on time, within budget and to our clients expectations. In addition to Health and Safety, customer service is critical. You will ensure that work is carried out in a manner which meets or exceeds customer expectations and adopts a right first time approach.

Satisfaction of customers is measured through a new regulatory measure called C-MeX. You will work closely with the client to influence a dramatic improvement in the C-MeX measure and show leadership skills to genuinely care about the ratings customers give of Network Pluss services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Coordination:
    • Plan and manage purge and relight operations as part of gas mains replacement projects.
    • Collaborate with project teams, including engineers, supervisors, and operatives, to schedule work efficiently.
  • Compliance & Safety:
    • Ensure all activities align with industry standards, including IGEM standards, Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations, and HSE guidelines.
    • Promote a strong safety culture, ensuring adherence to risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
    • Maintain thorough records of purging and relight processes for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Customer Liaison:
    • Act as the escalation point of contact for customer services for purge and relight operations.
    • Address customer concerns promptly and professionally, minimising disruption during gas supply reinstatement.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Supervise and support purge and relight teams, ensuring tasks are completed effectively and safely.
    • Provide training and mentoring to junior staff where necessary.
    • Undertake managerial HR tasks such as payroll, timesheets, performance management etc.

Skills and Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Previous experience in managing gas mains replacement or similar gas network projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of gas purging, commissioning, and relighting processes.
  • Gas Safe Registration or equivalent qualification.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety standards in the gas industry.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and plans.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Teams and Excel
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Full UK driving license.

Desirable:

  • IGEM membership or relevant technical certifications (e.g., SCO, SHEA Gas).
  • Experience managing purge and relight operational teams.
  • Proficiency in using digital systems for reporting and scheduling.

Working Conditions:

  • Office based role with occasional requirement to travel across project sites.
  • Occasional requirement to work unsociable hours or weekends to meet project deadlines.
