Head of IT - Manchester - Up to £85,000 plus bonus and more!

DCS Technology are seeking a dynamic and strategic Head of IT to lead our client's technology operations. This senior leadership role is pivotal in defining and executing the IT strategy, managing robust and scalable infrastructure, and ensuring operational excellence across all systems.

What will you be doing?

IT strategy & leadership

  • Develop and implement an IT strategy aligned with broader business objectives
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing IT team
  • Manage the IT budget, ensuring efficient use of resources
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers, overseeing contract negotiations

Infrastructure & operations

  • Ensure the availability, security, scalability, and performance of all IT systems, including servers, networks, cloud services, and user devices
  • Administer and optimise Linux environments, primarily Ubuntu Server
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive disaster recovery and business continuity plans
  • Oversee IT support services and ensure timely resolution of technical issues

VoIP & communications systems

  • Design, implement, and manage enterprise-level VoIP systems
  • Monitor and ensure high-quality, reliable voice services
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex VoIP issues, including SIP, RTP, and network dependencies
  • Aware and up to date with emerging communication technologies and industry best practices

DevOps & infrastructure modernisation

  • Promote DevOps principles to enhance operational efficiency and automation
  • Manage and scale containerised environments using Docker.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practices

Security & compliance

  • Establish and enforce IT security policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, such as GDPR and PCI DSS
  • Oversee security operations, including vulnerability management and incident response

What are we looking for?

  • Senior-level IT leadership experience, including team management and strategic oversight.
  • Deep hands-on experience with VoIP systems and related protocols.
  • Proven expertise in DevOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure automation.
  • Proficiency in containerization and orchestration tools (Docker).
  • Strong Linux system administration skills (Ubuntu Server preferred).
  • Solid networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, load balancing).
  • Experience with virtualization technologies and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Strong knowledge of IT security and compliance best practices.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with high-availability systems and mission-critical infrastructure.
