Role Overview

My client is currently seeking a Responsible Individual (RI) to oversee the effective running of their children's home. This role involves strategic leadership to ensure full compliance with Ofsted regulations, the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, and the Quality Standards. The successful candidate will guide the Registered Manager and staff team in delivering outstanding care, while ensuring all legal and regulatory obligations are consistently met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the home operates in accordance with Ofsted regulations and consistently meets the Quality Standards.
  • Provide clear leadership, direction, and governance to the Registered Manager and care team.
  • Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are always implemented and followed rigorously.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with key external stakeholders, including local authorities, social workers, and safeguarding teams.
  • Oversee the implementation and review of robust policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
  • Monitor and support compliance with financial, staffing, and operational protocols.
  • Assist with recruitment, training, and staff development to foster a skilled, motivated team.
  • Lead audits and performance evaluations to promote continuous improvement.
  • Represent the home at inspections, multi-agency meetings, and any required legal proceedings.

Essential Criteria

  • Extensive experience in children’s residential care with a sound understanding of relevant legislation and standards.
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent qualification).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of safeguarding practices and child protection frameworks.
  • Proven leadership and management capabilities, with excellent communication skills.
  • Experience collaborating with external agencies, including Ofsted and local authorities.
  • A strong commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people.
  • Competence in managing budgets and overseeing the home’s financial performance.

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous experience as a Responsible Individual or Registered Manager.
  • Experience managing multiple residential settings.
  • Demonstrated success in achieving positive outcomes during Ofsted inspections.
