Position: Civil Engineer

Location: Manchester

Salary: £50,000 -£55,000 per annum, plus car allowance, pension, bonus & benefits;

This stable profession commands high fees and provides exceptional breadth and technical challenges. Your existing civil/structural engineering knowledge will be fully applied. You will be joining an expanding civil & structural team, becoming a member of an international firm employing over four hundred experts.

The Role: The investigation of a range of civil and structural engineering failures, typically affecting bridges, development infrastructure, civil structures, temporary works and buildings. Assignments start with a site visit and the review of the design, construction methodology, site conditions and materials used. If required, you will request component/ material testing, this would be carried out in their state-of-the-art laboratory by specialist materials engineers or metallurgists. Using the information you have gathered you will unravel the cause of the failure, culminating in a report identifying the root cause of the problem and why it occurred. On occasion your findings will be used to settle cases in a court of law. Your reports will be prepared with potential litigation in mind. The work is national and international, there may be the occasional need for overseas travel. A team of experts is on hand to provide advice where specialist technical input is required.

Training & Development: Your line manager, a chartered civil engineer will provide training and mentoring. You will learn how to conduct investigations and how to interpret and present your findings. The consistent demand for their services means they are steadily expanding, you will have regular career reviews and the opportunity to advance when you are ready. The position also provides a route to become an expert witness.

Your Profile:

  • A degree qualified civil engineer
  • Four plus years of experience
  • A graduate member of the ICE
  • Approaching chartered status
  • A lateral thinker with good problem solving skills
  • A desire to learn and progress
  • An experienced design engineer
  • A valid UK driving license
  • Experience in one or more of the following topics; drainage, bridges, estate roads, highways, temporary works, civil or building structures.
