Are you an experienced Senior CAD / BIM Designer looking for a dynamic and challenging freelance role? My client is a leading civil engineering contractor, delivering some of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects. With a multibillion-pound portfolio spanning structures, highways, and the water sector, this company is at the forefront of innovative and sustainable civil engineering solutions.

As a Freelance Senior CAD / BIM Designer, you will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, producing high-quality 2D drawings and 3D models that support the successful design and construction of complex infrastructure schemes.

Key Responsibilities

?? CAD & BIM Model Development - Produce and manage detailed 3D models and 2D drawings for large-scale civil engineering projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project specifications.?? Multi-Disciplinary Coordination - Work collaboratively with engineers, project managers, and other key stakeholders to ensure designs align with project objectives and industry standards.?? Highways, Structures, and Water Sector Design - Support the development of bridges, tunnels, highways, drainage systems, and water treatment facilities, applying sector-specific knowledge.?? BIM Compliance & Digital Engineering - Ensure all work aligns with BIM Level 2 / ISO 19650 requirements, contributing to federated models, clash detection, and data-rich digital workflows.?? Automation & Efficiency - Assist in the development of automation, parametric design, and digital workflows to enhance productivity and improve project outcomes.?? Quality Control & Compliance - Maintain adherence to industry best practices, ensuring designs are efficient, sustainable, and compliant with relevant regulations and safety standards.

Skills & Experience Required

? Extensive Experience in Civil Infrastructure - Proven background working on highways, structures, or water sector projects in a CAD / BIM design capacity.? Technical Expertise - Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks, InfraWorks, and other BIM-related software. Experience with Dynamo, scripting, or automation tools is an advantage.? Strong Understanding of BIM & Digital Engineering - Experience working within BIM Level 2 / ISO 19650 environments, including model coordination and clash detection.? Attention to Detail & Problem-Solving Skills - Ability to analyse complex design challenges and propose innovative solutions.? Collaborative & Proactive Approach - Comfortable working independently while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams.? Contractor / Consultancy Experience - Background in a civil engineering design consultancy or main contractor environment preferred.
