As their operations continue to expand, they are seeking a meticulous and experienced Setting Out Engineer / Site Engineer to join their dynamic team and support the delivery of key infrastructure projects.

Role Overview:

Our client is looking for a Setting Out Engineer / Site Engineer to play a crucial role in their infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting out and surveying activities, ensuring the precise execution of construction plans. This role requires a keen eye for detail and a solid understanding of engineering principles, with a particular focus on ensuring the accuracy and quality of all work performed on site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Setting Out: Perform precise setting out and levelling of construction sites for infrastructure projects, ensuring all works are carried out to the exact specifications and plans.
  • Surveying: Conduct detailed surveys of sites to gather data for project planning and progress monitoring.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support to site teams, ensuring all work complies with engineering standards and project requirements.
  • Quality Control: Monitor and verify the accuracy and quality of all construction work, identifying and resolving any discrepancies.
  • Health and Safety: Implement and adhere to health and safety policies, conducting regular site inspections to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Coordination: Liaise with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure seamless integration of setting out and engineering activities.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of all setting out and surveying activities, including as-built drawings and reports.
  • Problem Solving: Identify and troubleshoot any issues on site, working closely with the project team to develop effective solutions.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all surveying and setting out equipment is well-maintained and calibrated for accurate measurements.
  • Compliance: Ensure all site activities comply with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Educational Background: A degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Surveying, or a related field.
  • Professional Experience: Proven experience as a Setting Out Engineer or Site Engineer, ideally within the infrastructure sector.
  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in setting out techniques and the use of modern surveying equipment such as GPS, total stations, and laser levels.
  • Engineering Knowledge: In-depth understanding of civil engineering principles and construction methods.
  • Organisational Skills: Excellent organisational and time-management abilities, capable of handling multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency in CAD software and other relevant engineering tools.
  • Certifications: Valid CSCS card and, preferably, SMSTS or SSSTS certification.
  • Driving Licence: Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Skills:

  • Specialist Experience: Experience in setting out for major infrastructure projects, particularly highways or water systems.
  • Advanced Software Skills: Familiarity with specialist software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other surveying and design tools.
  • Professional Memberships: Membership in professional bodies such as ICE or CIHT.
  • Continual Learning: Commitment to continuous professional development and keeping up-to-date with the latest industry practices and technologies.
