We have a fantastic opportunity for a Roadworker at Bolton Council Council, this is a full-time Temporary role for the next 3 months, with the possibility of extension.

What is the role?

Bolton Council are looking for a Roadworker, to lead operational teams to maintain, upgrade and repair the public highway and street lighting across the borough.

What are your responsibilities?

  • Lead maintenance teams to carry out minor highway and street lighting work, including drain laying, trenching, timbering, steel fixing, reinforced concreting, manhole construction, sewers / tunnels, shuttering, kerbing, flagging, block paving, maintaining service ducts, installation of street furniture and bridge works, footway / carriageway bituminous re-surfacing and the erection, repair and removal of appropriate illuminated signs, lighting columns and barriers, following appropriate drawings and specifications.
  • Take the lead role on site in the absence of senior staff, directing the work of lower graded operatives.
  • Drive and supervise the use of specialist vehicles with appropriate equipment and the operate powered heavy plant, carry out appropriate vehicle checks, routine maintenance and cleaning.
  • Ensure duties are carried out as trained and in conjunction with Health and Safety legislation and other electrical regulations.
  • Where appropriate the use of CCTV equipment, drain location equipment, sewer/manhole entry, sever traverse and associated works.
  • Excavate the highway and use CAT scans to identify faults on all Highway infrastructure, including pipes, electrical cables and utilities apparatus.
  • Complete all job documentation relevant to the position, including work tickets, orders and timesheets.
  • Work at heights from hydraulic platforms, ladders, and scaffold and supervise other staff who may use this equipment.

What skills do you Need?

  • Must have recent experience of working as a Roadworker for a Local Authorities
  • Excellent people skills, as you will be speaking to the public, other members of staff and managers.
  • Full UK Driving Licence – Class 2
  • Grounds Work experience will be required as well.
  • Must be physically fit, and able to work outdoors and lift heavy items
  • Required: class 2 , groundwork experience as the role will require some manual excavation of the highway

       preferred: Hiab experience, some electrical knowledge
