With a dynamic and hands-on approach, you will lead teams and drive improvements across critical areas, growing the commercial outputs of the business.
What you’ll do:
As the Commercial Director, you will be responsible for the strategic direction and management of key commercial departments, including Sales, Marketing, Purchasing, and Product Management.
You will play an integral role in developing and executing a comprehensive commercial strategy across the UK, EU, USA, and beyond.
This position requires a commercially driven, energetic leader with the ability to inspire changes, deliver results, and foster collaboration across departments. You will be a key part of driving performance, operational excellence, and leading the charge towards business growth targets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Commercial Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive growth strategy across the UK, EU, USA, and global markets.
- Leadership: Lead and mentor Sales, Marketing, Customer Service, Procurement, and Product Management to achieve departmental and collective goals.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure strategic alignment, cohesive messaging, and operational excellence.
- Performance Management: Set and monitor KPIs across departments, ensuring a data-driven approach to success and performance improvement.
- Strategy Communication: Effectively communicate business unit strategies to departments, ensuring progress towards targets.
- Revenue Growth: Oversee the marketing, sales, and customer service teams to drive revenue, ensuring strong collaboration with Procurement and Product Management.
- Client Relationships: Manage and develop key client relationships, ensuring alignment of services with market demands.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure compliance with UK and international laws and regulations, and oversee internal audits and risk assessments.
- Business Decisions: Approve major business decisions, including financial policies, contracts, and resource allocation.
- Expansion: Identify and pursue new business opportunities, partnerships, and market expansions.
- Operational Excellence: Drive process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Financial Oversight: Work alongside Financial Heads to review budgets, financial statements, and operational performance, contributing to the company’s financial health.
- Public Engagement: Represent the company in key negotiations, stakeholder meetings, and public engagements.
- Team Development: Foster effective communication and collaborative relationships within and across departments.
- Additional Duties: Undertake any other duties as required by the Chief Executive Officer.
Your background:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (Chemical, Life Science, Pharmaceutical, or similar). A Master’s degree is preferred.Professional qualifications/personal development in Sales, Marketing, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related fields are desired.
- Proven experience in a senior leadership role within the chemical or related industries.Multiple years of chemical sales management.
- Strong commercial acumen with a proven ability to drive revenue growth and profitability.
- High level of technical knowledge in scientific and IT disciplines.
- Enthusiastic, with the ability to bring energy, fun, and hard work into the workplace.
- Excellent mentoring and coaching skills, with experience in training and development.Strong communication and client-facing skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to manage and lead diverse teams, including managing sales budgets of £15-20m.Experience in managing multiple departments, with a deep understanding of marketing practices and product launches.
- Strong strategic thinker with experience in identifying new market opportunities and business expansion.
- Proven track record in financial management, including P&L analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and internal controls.
- Strong leadership and performance management skills, with experience in handling difficult conversations.Ability to work flexibly and demonstrate a hands-on approach to management.
