Portfolio Optimisation Lead

Core3 have partnered with a fast growth, Private Equity backed Renewable Energy business to appoint a Portfolio Optimisation Lead on a hybrid basis.

Up to £90,000 + 50% Bonus

Hybrid - 3 days p/w (Manchester area)

Why join our client?

My client is a Series A Renewable Energy startup based in the wider Manchester area, currently with circa 50 employees but huge ambition.

Circa 5 years old, the business is now starting to springboard and has grown from £2mill revenue in 2023 to delivering £20mill+ revenue in 2024. They are appropriately funded with a recent and successful Series A raise and fast approaching Series B, with the security of repeat support from a lead investor.

How you'll make an impact

The Portfolio Optimisation Lead will support a highly regarded Director and will own the pricing methodology for the business, optimising the UK Power Portfolio including any interconnection with a future European Portfolio and markets, ensuring alignment of positions, P&L and risk.

You will oversee the full spectrum of the Power Portfolio, maintaining a sustainable and profitable portfolio whilst hitting 5-10X y.o.y. growth targets.

  • Build portfolio of optimisation tools and analytical capability, and embed decision ownership to deliver P&L.
  • Manage volume, price, volatility, correlation, and indexation exposure, with specific focus on power markets and related commodities.
  • Daily Position and P&L reporting
  • Risk Metrics Management
  • Dela Optimisation
  • Cross-functional collaboration
  • Performance analysis
  • Management of the broader Market Analyst team (3 heads)

Why our client is excited about you

Our client is looking for someone who is values driven and has a passion for both technology and sustainability. It's currently a small business but with exceptional leadership. For me, the appeal to this role is the visibility, exposure/ownership and development.

The right person for this role will have a proven track record in the Energy market. Likely as a Senior Market Analyst stepping up to P&L ownership, or a proven Portfolio Manager who wants a unique opportunity to build their career in a fast-growth innovative scaleup that can offer progression opportunities at the speed they're earnt.

  • Proven track record of delivery in an energy trading/optimisation business
  • >3 years' experience in the UK Energy markets with knowledge of route to market products for generators and consumers
  • Knowledge of power generation, offtake agreements, grid balancing, interconnectors, storage and virtual trading structures, including physical and financial power hedging.
  • Very strong analytical skills - high proficiency in Excel, ideally knowledge of Python
  • Good people skills and ability to coach/lead a team

What you'll get in return

  • £75,000-£90,000 (+/-) Base Salary
  • 50% Bonus
  • Additional Benefits

We invite applications from all qualified candidates who believe they meet the requirements of the role, whilst supporting and promoting equality and diversity to create an inclusive working environment for all.
