CNC Machinist (CNC Engineering) - Requirements

  • 3,4 & 5 Axis experience
  • Medium to heavy engineering experience is essential
  • Engineering apprenticeship preferred but not essential
  • Engineering Experience
  • Completed an engineering apprenticeship
  • Experience working on machines with Mazak (desirable) or Fanuc controls.
  • Good understanding of engineering practices and methods
  • Basic knowledge of computer programmes, with the ability to navigate and understand directory structures and network drives
  • Able to navigate and have an understanding of directory structures and network drives
  • Familiar with CMM software (desirable)
  • Able to think logically through solving a problem
  • Dedication to the job and a willingness to achieve
  • A good sense of urgency

CNC Machinist (CNC Engineering) - Responsibilities

  • Set and operate 3, 4 & 5 axis vertical milling machines as required
  • Set and prove out job, obtaining a first of job has been proved out
  • Ensure that allocated machines are set and run, producing quality parts according to instructions in appropriate times
  • Run milling machines after setting, ensuring that quality is maintained throughout the entire production run.
  • To read and understand engineering drawings to ensure all parts machined conform to drawing and planning specification
  • To calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and precision instruments to monitor the speeds and feeds of the machine being operated
  • To set controls to regulate machining, or enter commands to retrieve, input or edit CNC controls and use control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes
  • To select appropriate tools, equipment and materials in preparation of machining
  • Ensure tooling, fixtures and relevant information are prepared and available when required.
  • Identify any engineering requirements/issues that arise and communicate to the relevant person (Team Leaders, Production Planner, Maintenance & Engineering Departments)
  • Ensuring routine machine maintenance is carried out as necessary where possible operating more than one machine
  • Check manufactured parts for compliance to the drawing
  • Operate CNC CMM machines, following instructions to run programs.
  • Operate a Manual CMM machine to check drawing compliance.
  • Ensure that health and safety guidelines and practices are followed in line with company policy.
  • Ensure work in carried out safely both to themselves and to their colleagues.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant H&S policies and procedures within the workplace.
  • Ensure that 5S, TPM and other programmes in the machine shop area is sustained and worked to.
  • Assist with problem-solving any issues that appear.
  • Communicate any issues through appropriate methods to the engineering, and technical departments.
  • Identify and develop manufacturing improvements/procedures
  • Ensure that any method improvements are communicated through the appropriate means.
