Our client is a premier landscaping company known for delivering exceptional outdoor solutions, from high-end residential gardens to large-scale commercial and external works projects. The company’s turnover is in excess of £10m. With a reputation for quality craftsmanship, and client-focused service, our client is looking to expand their leadership team with an innovative and results-driven Operational Director to take their operations to the next level.

Role Summary:

This newly established 'hands on’ position will provide strategic direction to the Senior Management and Operational teams, ensuring the delivery of exceptional services while balancing financial sustainability, commercial objectives, and regulatory requirements.

As the Operational Director, you will collaborate closely with the Managing Director and Directors to define and implement the company’s strategic goals. You will oversee all aspects of operations with a practical approach, ensuring projects are executed efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Through strong leadership, innovation, and a focus on operational excellence, you will be instrumental in driving the growth and success of the business.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Partnership with the Managing Director:

  • Collaborate with the Managing Director to develop and implement operational strategies aligned with the company’s long-term goals.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
  • Act as a key advisor to the Managing Director on operational matters, industry trends, and performance improvements.
  • Liaise with business development team to support the strategic goals

Operations Management:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, including project management, resource allocation, and quality assurance.
  • Streamline processes to improve productivity and ensure projects are delivered on schedule.
  • Monitor KPIs and operational metrics, providing regular reports to the Managing Director and Senior team.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage project managers, site supervisors, and operational staff.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and safety.
  • Identify skill gaps to enhance team performance.

Financial Management:

  • Manage operational budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
  • Drive financial accountability by analysing project costs and profitability.
  • Support the Managing Director in forecasting and controlling operational costs.
  • Work closely with the commercial team on CVR’s

Client and Stakeholder Management:

  • Build and maintain relationships with key clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Address operational challenges and ensure exceptional customer satisfaction.
  • Represent operational interests in client discussions and presentations.

Key Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience in an operations leadership role, with hard and soft landscape construction experience.
  • Strong understanding of project management principles, workflows, and resource allocation.
  • Expertise in managing budgets, analysing financial data, and driving cost efficiencies.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills with a focus on collaboration and performance improvement, with hands on capability when needed.
  • Knowledge of landscaping or construction industry standards, materials, and techniques.
  • Familiarity with sustainability practices and emerging trends in landscaping and construction.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
