Location – Remote Working (with some travel to local office as required)

Simpson Millar is looking to recruit a Paralegal within the Personal Injury Military Team. As a paralegal you will support the Solicitors and Fee Earners to manage their cases to the highest standards and quality for their clients, whilst achieving financial and operational KPIs for the business.  

You will be responsible for delivering a service that enables our Client Proposition of ‘delivering trusted legal advice, quickly and clearly‘ by:

•    Assisting fee-earners to progress cases quickly.

•    To maintain high standards in the conduct of all work and maintain the highest level of professional standards and client care at all times.

•    Promote and actively participate in marketing activities and initiatives within the Department and firm generally.

•    To liaise directly with clients and third parties.

•    Making telephone calls to clients and witnesses both on new and existing cases.

•    To build and maintain strong professional working relationships with external institutions and organisations.

•    Assisting with risk assessments for new claims.

•    Liaising with the New Business Team with regards to the opening of new files.

•    Preparing trial bundles.

•    Conducting research for cases.

•    Liaising with external bodies such as Courts, etc.

•    Organising conferences and meetings.

•    Giving oral explanations to clients regarding funding.

•    Managing and updating in-house databases.

•    To work competently and compliantly with a case management system, databases and office IT systems.

•    To undertake other duties essential to the operation of the Department as and when directed.

•    To prioritise and manage the efficient and prompt progression of cases.

•    Showing empathy and care in all client interactions.

•    To adhere to the professional Code of Conduct and comply with the firm’s internal policies, best practices and procedures as updated from time to time and to comply with all applicable legislation applicable to the legal profession and to all relevant quality standards.

•    Through training keep fully up to date with relevant legislation and best practice.

•    Ensure the confidentiality and security of all firm-wide client documentation, data and information.

•    A commitment to equal opportunities and diversity.

We are looking for someone who has:

•    A competent knowledge of Personal Injury Law and Civil Procedure, including procedural and practical skills 

•    Strong interpersonal and practical skills including demonstrable negotiation skills.

•    An understanding of data protection and experience of working with sensitive data.

•    Strong IT Skills with the ability to work with a Case Management System, databases and normal office IP     systems.

•    Experience of working within a team with adherence to deadlines and prioritising of work.

•    Experience of working with the general public and demonstrate a sensitive and cooperative approach to clients.

•    A degree or CILEX or equivalent is desirable (not essential).

•    Experience in a previous paralegal role is desirable (not essential)..

•    Military law experience is desirable (not essential)
