BI Developer - Manchester - Hybrid
Harvey Nash is working with a well known enterprise organisation based in Manchester who are looking for a full-time BI Developer to join their team. There is an on site requirement of 3 days a week in their Manchester office.
Job Role:
As a BI Developer in their IT team, you will play a crucial role in their mission to enhance business operations through effective use of data and insights. You will be responsible for sourcing data from various systems and developing dashboards and reports based on requirements specified by their data analysts and business partners. Your work will involve producing data reports on the performance of their security checkpoints, mining their data lake for insights on car parking and retail, and collaborating with IT and Operations teams to visualise real-time data for operational management.
Responsibilities:- Support IT & BI strategies and understand business function strategies to enable appropriate BI solutions.
- Translate business needs into meaningful data structures that provide accurate solutions, ensuring value addition.
- Produce BI to enable informed revenue-generating decision-making aligned with business strategic initiatives.
- Create business-critical dashboards and reports, delivering visualisations that allow end users to explore data while maintaining centralised governance and control.
- Own the production of quality BI reporting and visualisation for Exco, SLT, and senior stakeholders.
- Design and develop new ETL processes to integrate new data sources into our data warehouse.
- Optimise and continuously improve the BI environment to meet growing business demands, ensuring no impact on performance, and recommending aggregation and materialised views.
- Collaborate with BI Intelligence Lead and commercial stakeholders in running user acceptance testing initiatives.
- Maintain and improve existing ETL loads, transitioning from batch window loads to real-time data streaming.
- Design and develop Power BI dashboards to deliver insights and actionable intelligence.
- ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) Development: Develop and maintain ETL processes to extract, transform, and load data into a data warehouse or data mart.
- Data Warehouse Development: Design, develop, and maintain data warehouses or data marts for reporting and analysis.
- Data Quality and Governance: Implement data quality checks and establish data governance practices to ensure data accuracy, reliability, and compliance.
- Stakeholder Communication: Collaborate with various departments and present data-driven recommendations.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience as a BI developer within ETL and data warehousing, ideally with Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) in an AWS S3/Redshift cloud environment, or similar ETL tools (Informatica, SSIS).
- Practical database development and performance tuning experience using SQL and materialised views.
- Experience ingesting and transforming complex datasets within a warehouse solution; familiarity with web APIs is desirable. Python skills are advantageous.
- Understanding of dimensional data modelling (Kimball) and key principles.
- Experience creating Power BI reports/dashboards/apps in a collaborative environment with internal/external users.
- Knowledge of the BI marketplace, particularly real-time data streaming technologies.
- Experience in requirements gathering and interpretation, with the ability to understand complex business ideas and deliver solutions that provide incremental ROI.
