Data Engineer | EdTech | Manchester (Hybrid)

Role: Data Engineer

Location: Manchester (1 day per week)

Harmonic is delighted to partner with a national organisation, on a mission to become the partner of choice for developing people and their communities. They have a rapidly growing Business Intelligence department with their work in data having a positive impact on communities across the UK.

The role will sit within the BI Development Team, who are responsible for designing, building, and maintaining data infrastructure platforms as part of a huge ongoing project, the creation of a brand-new Data Warehouse.

This is an incredibly unique opportunity for someone with solid SQL experience and an understanding of data warehousing, to be involved in such a large-scale project and develop experience in ADF, Snowflake and Power Automate - bringing your tech stack ahead of the market!

You will be joining a well-established BI department of 20 like-minded individuals, who come together to brainstorm and share ideas, ensuring everyone in the department is constantly learning and developing.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Data pipeline architecture - Building, testing and maintaining database pipeline architectures in Snowflake and ADF
  • Data Modelling - Designing and maintaining data models in Snowflake, Dataflows, and Power BI. Establishing connections between different information locations and systems
  • Data Orchestration - Manipulating raw data to make it more accessible, organised, and easier to analyse for people both inside and outside of the BI team
  • Dataset Creation - Working with specific criteria from Operations or Analyst teams to source the correct data, build cohesive datasets and create measures and KPIs as a "single source of truth" for reporting
  • Best Practice and Support - Applying and documenting best practices to provide clean, transformed datasets across the team. Supporting other teams with Snowflake / PBI models and knowledge sharing
  • Collaboration - Working with other team members to ensure efficient data workflows, accurate reporting figures, and insight deliveries

Skills and experience:

  • Understanding of ETL / ELT processes
  • Understanding and experience with DDL / DML
  • Query optimisation and performance tuning
  • Proficiency in SQL and DAX (Python would be desirable)
  • Star schema data modelling

Technical Skills:

  • Azure Data Factory
  • SQL
  • Snowflake
  • MS Power Platform - Power Apps / Power Automate
  • GitHub
