Teaching Assistant - Alternative Provision (Arabic-Speaking)

About the Role:

Equitas are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join an Alternative Provision setting, providing essential support to a non-English-speaking student whose first language is Arabic. This role requires a patient, compassionate, and adaptable individual who can help the student develop their reading, writing, and spoken English skills, enabling them to access the curriculum and integrate into the school environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide 1:1 support to an Arabic-speaking student to develop their English language skills.
  • Assist in delivering tailored ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) interventions.
  • Work closely with teachers and SENCO to adapt learning materials and ensure the student can engage with lessons.
  • Support classroom activities, encouraging participation and confidence in speaking English.
  • Use bilingual communication to help bridge language gaps and aid comprehension.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to staff, ensuring appropriate strategies are in place.
  • Help with behaviour management, engagement, and emotional well-being.
  • Assist in developing the student’s literacy and numeracy skills through targeted support.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Requirements:
  • Fluent in Arabic and English (spoken and written).
  • Experience working with EAL (English as an Additional Language) learners is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or similar role in an Alternative Provision, SEN, or mainstream setting.
  • A patient and empathetic approach to supporting students with language barriers.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and adapt to the needs of the student.
  • A relevant qualification in education, support work, or ESOL (desirable but not essential).
