Our client, a leader in the power utilities sector, is currently seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join their team. The role involves designing and delivering utility connections to the E-mobility and Industrial sectors, specifically electrical connections. The company provides LV and 11kv connections to the grid.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce project-specific DNO/IDNO/Private network electrical designs
  • Create bill of quantities of equipment in line with relevant IEC, DNO, IDNO, and client specifications
  • Conduct cable calculations
  • Prepare technical reports detailing the proposed connection arrangement
  • Design earthing systems and layouts
  • Review client specifications
  • Plan HV substation layouts and elevations
  • Complete DNO and IDNO POC applications and protection settings
  • Perform site development and due diligence studies
  • Develop and review single-line diagrams and capacity/network planning studies
  • Liaise with external design houses, consultancies, clients, IDNOs, and DNOs
  • Review equipment manufacturers' proposals and ensure equipment suitability
  • Approve and issue designs for construction
  • Input into contract project plans, report progress, and identify risks
  • Ensure compliance with laws, including Electricity at Work, H&S, ESQCR, and CDM Regulations


Additional Duties:

  • Hold overall responsibility for the engineering design of projects
  • Represent the client brand in direct contact with clients
  • Coordinate project requirements with civil, electrical, protection, and control designers
  • Lead projects from commencement to handover
  • Support the Project Delivery Team during the Project Design Change Process
  • Maintain project programmes through the design phase
  • Prepare design phase safety documentation, risk assessments, and preliminary H&S plans
  • Manage the design approval process with UK DNOs/IDNOs
  • Complete project Environmental and Sustainability files
  • Support the estimating process with Project Managers


Job Requirements:

  • HNC minimum qualification in Electrical Engineering
  • Good knowledge and experience in Designing LV to 33kv projects
  • Experience in HV Substation design to DNO/IDNO specifications
  • Knowledge of British Standards and G81
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD; knowledge of Amtech, Revit, CDEGS (advantageous)
