Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join our client's growing Building Services team based in Manchester. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the electrical design aspects of a wide range of projects, including commercial, residential, and mixed-use developments, within the built environment. You will play a key role in ensuring the electrical systems are designed to meet client requirements, adhere to regulatory standards, and deliver on time and within budget.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Electrical Design & Engineering:

    • Lead and deliver electrical design solutions for building services projects, from initial concept through to detailed design and project completion.
    • Perform load calculations, lighting design, power distribution, and system integration for HVAC, fire alarms, emergency lighting, and other key systems.
    • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior and intermediate engineers.
    • Prepare and review electrical designs, specifications, and drawings in compliance with building regulations, standards, and client requirements.
    • Collaborate with other disciplines (mechanical, structural, and architectural teams) to ensure the integration of electrical systems within the overall building services design.
  • Client and Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, architects, contractors, and suppliers regarding electrical design and technical issues.
    • Attend client meetings to discuss project requirements, timelines, and expectations.
    • Provide technical expertise during the construction phase, reviewing contractors' work and supporting the resolution of any on-site issues.
  • Compliance & Quality Assurance:

    • Ensure all electrical systems are designed to meet relevant UK regulations, including the 18th Edition of the IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671), health and safety standards, and sustainability objectives.
    • Conduct risk assessments and ensure designs incorporate appropriate safety measures and consider environmental impacts.
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of quality assurance processes.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement:

    • Stay updated on the latest trends, technologies, and best practices within electrical engineering and building services.
    • Propose innovative and sustainable solutions to meet client and project requirements.
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency's within the design team.


Skills & Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related field.
    • Chartered Engineer status (IET or equivalent) is highly desirable, but not essential.
  • Experience:

    • Proven experience (5+ years) in electrical design within the building services sector, ideally in a senior role.
    • Strong knowledge of electrical systems design, including power distribution, lighting design, fire alarms, security systems, and other building services.
    • Experience in leading projects and managing a design team.
    • Familiarity with relevant design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Amtech, Dialux, or similar tools).
    • Knowledge of UK building codes and regulations (e.g., BS 7671, Part L of the Building Regulations, etc.).
  • Technical Skills:

    • Strong understanding of electrical principles, design calculations, and safety regulations.
    • Ability to produce detailed technical specifications, reports, and drawings.
    • Knowledge of sustainability and energy-efficient design principles.
  • Soft Skills:

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with clients and stakeholders at all levels.
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
    • High level of attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
