Biodiversity Net Gain Consultant

An established environmental consultancy is seeking a Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) Consultant to support sustainable development in England. With BNG now a mandatory requirement, this role offers the opportunity to shape nature-positive projects while advancing your career in ecological consultancy.



The Role

Involving fieldwork and office-based responsibilities, this role will include conducting habitat surveys, biodiversity assessments, and long-term management plans. The consultant will guide clients through the BNG process, from feasibility studies to post-development monitoring, ensuring compliance and delivering real ecological benefits.

Collaboration is key. You will work closely with in-house and external specialists across arboriculture, landscape architecture, and planning.



Key Responsibilities as a BNG Consultant

  • Conduct habitat surveys using UKHab methodology, mapping, and condition assessments
  • Deliver BNG feasibility reports, management plans, and monitoring strategies
  • Advise clients and contribute to BNG workshops and presentations
  • Liaise with habitat banks and support the acquisition of off-site units
  • Maintain project documentation in response to policy updates and feedback


BNG Consultant Requirements

  • 1-2 years' experience conducting BNG assessments and using the Biodiversity Metric
  • A degree in ecology, environmental science, or a related field
  • Experience in field surveys, data analysis, and GIS
  • Knowledge of habitat management and conservation strategies
  • Full UK driving licence and acess to own vehicle
