Our client based in Manchester is passionate about customer services. Their mission is to assist those involved in international trade so they do not need to worry about the complexities of customs formalities - they do the hard work so customers can concentrate on running a business!!

As a customs operator you will be responsible for coordinating and executing all aspects of the customs clearance process. This will include liaising with overseas agencies, customs brokers, hauliers and vendors. You will be required to work with other departments within the organisation and provide updates to customers and other departments.

OBJECTIVES OF THE ROLE

  • Complete any HMRC declarations compliantly.
  • Request overseas customs clearances compliantly.
  • Maintaining accurate records of all shipments and updating the companies’ systems.
  • Communicating with vendors and customers.
  • Troubleshoot any issues which may arise.

 RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To ensure that any duties or taxes paid on deferment are invoiced immediately for immediate payment, unless otherwise agreed.
  • To complete Import and Export declarations accurately within the allocated time frame.
  • To build and maintain strong relationships with customers.
  • Ensuring compliance with customs regulations of the UK.
  • Ensuring that import quotas, trade agreements and customs regulations are completed correctly.
  • Complete CHED’s prior to arrival and check information on documents.
  • To be responsible for invoicing on time and month end closing periods.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • An understanding of the export / import industry especially tariff classification.
  • An understanding of export / import paperwork.
  • An understanding of the customs procedures and regimes.
  • Multimodal knowledge.
  • Knowledge of port community systems.
  • An understanding of the EMCS system.
  • An understanding of the NCTS system.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a related job.
  • Recent experience within a customs declaration environment.
