If so, join The Spinney in Greater Manchester as an Associate Specialist, where you will be providing comprehensive forensic service to patients across medium-to-low secure and locked rehabilitation.
The Spinney hospital has been ranked as āOutstandingā by the CQC on two consecutive inspections in 2016 and 2018, and more recently was marked āGoodā in 2022.
You will be attached to and supervised by two Consultants, where you will be expected to assist in the day-to-day running of the unit and cover for Consultants during their absence. You will be primarily working with two of the five full-time experienced Consultants at the site, as well as a specialty doctor.
As an Associate Specialist, you will ensure the high quality first-line medical care of our inpatients, liaising effectively with external professionals and carers, providing written and oral evidence for Hospital Managersā and Tribunal hearings, work towards safe discharges, and be a valued and effective member of the multidisciplinary team at The Spinney.
You will also ensure an adequate handover to colleagues including out of hours, seek collateral history from other professionals and family, and complete discharge letters/reports as required.

Other Responsibilities include:
Ā· Ensuring adequate handover to colleagues including out of hours.
Ā· Reviewing the mental state of service users as per the hospital procedure.
Ā· Ensuring (with the physical health team) that each patient has a full physical health screen upon admission including physical examination, ECG and bloods.
Ā· Assisting in the completion of discharge letters and reports as required in a timely manner.
Ā· Providing oral evidence at First-tier Tribunal and Hospital Managers' hearings under the supervision of a Consultant.
Ā· Contributing to the service development by participating in Clinical Governance activities by conducting audits, research and teaching.
Ā· Work effectively with colleagues to ensure that patients have access to appropriate medical cover at all times.
To be successful in this role, you'll need:
Ā· Full GMC registration
Ā· Experience working in psychiatry within multi-disciplinary teams.
Ā· To be in good CPD standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists and to have had an appraisal within the last year.
Ā· At least 3 years' experience in Psychiatry
Ā· Experience working as a doctor within PICU and forensic psychiatry (desirable).
Ā· Section 12 (2) approval (desirable)
Ā· MRCPsych (desirable)
