About the Role:An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced Housing Disrepair Solicitors or Fee Earners to join a well-established and growing team in Manchester City Centre. The ideal candidate will manage a caseload of housing disrepair claims, focusing on issues related to substandard living conditions for tenants. The role will involve both pre- and post-litigation housing disrepair claims, ensuring compliance with the Pre-Action Protocol for Housing Conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of housing disrepair claims, both pre- and post-litigation
  • Draft and send Letters of Claim to landlords
  • Collate special damages and review housing records to assess liability
  • Review surveyor's reports (Claimant and Defendant)
  • Negotiate settlements and engage in mediations
  • Issue Court Proceedings when necessary
  • Liaise with counsel and external professionals
  • Use Proclaim (claims management software) to manage caseloads efficiently
  • Communicate effectively with clients, providing regular updates and exceptional client service
  • Build and maintain positive professional relationships across the business
  • Adhere to business processes and policies, ensuring the smooth running of cases

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience in housing disrepair or contentious civil litigation
  • Proven ability to manage high-volume caseloads, including litigating from start to finish
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Highly organised, self-motivated, and detail-oriented
  • IT literate, with experience in Case Management Systems (Proclaim preferred)
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritising tasks effectively

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree-level education (preferably)
  • Essential experience in housing disrepair law, though candidates with substantial civil litigation experience will also be considered
  • Demonstrated ability to bill at Grade B or above
  • Familiarity with housing legislation, including the Landlord & Tenant Act 1985
