The Role

As a Housing Disrepair Fee Earner / Solicitor, you will handle a caseload of pre- and post-litigated claims primarily under Sections 9A and 11 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985. You will be responsible for managing cases from inception to conclusion, ensuring compliance with the Pre-Action Protocol for Housing Conditions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a caseload of pre- and post-litigation housing disrepair claims
  • Comply with the Pre-Action Protocol for Housing Disrepair Claims
  • Apply knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Landlord & Tenant Act
  • Draught Letters of Claim and collate special damages
  • Assess liability by reviewing housing records
  • Review claimant and defendant surveyor reports
  • Conduct negotiations and settlements, including mediation
  • Liaise with counsel and issue court proceedings
  • Use Proclaim (claims management software) efficiently and adhere to business processes
  • Communicate effectively with clients and liaise professionally across the business
  • Support the wider team with additional duties as required
Who We're Looking For

My client is open to applicants with varying degrees of prior experience. Our structured training and support mean we have successfully assisted individuals transitioning from fast-paced litigation backgrounds such as personal injury.

Person Specification:
  • Essential: Housing Disrepair experience or significant (10+ years) contentious civil litigation experience
  • Ability to bill work at Grade B or above
  • Strong case management system experience (Proclaim experience preferred)
  • Demonstrable ability to manage a high-volume litigation caseload and work efficiently
  • Experience in litigating own matters
  • Highly organised, self-motivated, and able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • IT literate and comfortable using case management systems
  • Preferred: Degree-level education; candidates applying for senior roles may hold FILEX, ILEX qualifications or similar relevant experience
