Multi-Skilled Assembly Fitter

Location: Urmston, Manchester
Contract Duration: 3-6 months (minimum 3 months)
Shift Pattern: Days – 7:30am-4pm Mon-Thurs, 7:30am-3pm Friday (39hrs minimum)
Rate of Pay: £22.00-£23.00 per hour (Limited Company)

£17.77p/h + Hol Pay (Inside IR35) PAYE / Umbrella

I am collaborating with a leading global engineering and manufacturing client based in Manchester, specializing in the design, build, and supply of bespoke special purpose machinery for the packaging and FMCG industries. They are currently seeking Mechanically-biased Assembly Fitters for an initial 3-6 month contract, with the possibility of extension depending on workload and project needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical assembly, including small bench work and bolting parts to machines
  • Reading and interpreting mechanical assembly drawings
  • Utilizing hand tools such as allen keys, spanners, pliers, drills, etc.
  • Identifying and reporting any issues or snags during assembly to management
  • Wiring and building control panels, 3-phase motors, and inverters
  • Reading and interpreting electrical drawings and schematics
  • Ensuring all paperwork and job cards are correctly completed
  • Meeting project and production deadlines

Ideal Candidate:

  • Ideally apprentice-trained (Engineering - Level 3) with a mechanical engineering background in machine assembly
  • Experience with special purpose machinery or similar systems
  • Knowledge of LEAN, 5S, and Continuous Improvement principles
  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills
  • Good understanding of Health, Safety, and Quality standards
  • Own set of assembly/bench fitting tools
