Underwriting Team Lead- 5 days a week in Manchester- up to £45K

The Underwriting Team Leader will be responsible for overseeing the underwriting process, leading a team of underwriters, ensuring quality control, and providing excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities

Lead a small team of underwriters

Underwrite all customer types and determine score bands within defined risk policy guidelines.

Complete manual underwriting on referred cases, taking into account credit appetite

Ability to adequately assess income, expenditure and affordability

Act as first line of defence for identifying risks and potential fraud

Be responsible for reviewing escalated cases in relation to underwriting decisions

Ensure that policies and procedures are followed at all times

Ensuring all underwriting department service level agreements are fully met as a minimum.

Receive and professionally handle all calls made into the underwriting department.

Assess customer documentation to establish affordability adequately and accurately for the loan.

Check legal documentation to ensure accuracy.

Manage payout function and ensure deals are paid out in a timely manner

Liaise with third parties via email and telephone

Support with in-life customer management where required

Key Skills & Experience

      Minimum 5 years experience as an underwriter

Experience in managing a team

Understanding of the consumer credit space, preferably within the motor finance sector

A systematic thought processes with decision making skills.

Strong understanding of credit risk

Ability to collaborate and coach

Ability to manage high volume of task and meet deadlines.

Ability to understand and interpret financial information.

Strong focus on ensuring good customer outcomes.

Problem solving skills

Knowledge of regulations relating to Consumer Duty, Compliance, Data Protection, Anti Money Laundering, Consumer Credit Directive and Consumer Credit Act

Works well as part of a team
