Job Purpose

• Provide Managers and Colleagues with comprehensive end to end advice and support to ensure the effective implementation of Safety Management Systems and generalist H&S support, through the provision of timely and accurate advice.


Principal Accountabilities


• Demonstrate a sound knowledge of all Health and safety policies and procedures to ensure accurate and first time advice is given.
• Provide clear, correct, and consistent advice to line managers in order to interpret regulatory requirements and apply to business planning, in areas such as incident management and investigations, risk assessment, specialist safety assessments, inspection and monitoring, health surveillance compliance, L1 assurance plans and corrective action management.
• Develop and deliver training to up-skill Line Managers in policy, procedure, and H&S legislation as appropriate.
• Support incident investigations to ensure root cause is identified and suitable remedial actions are implemented and tracked to completion, escalating risks to H&S BP as necessary.
• Monitor and provide oversight of departmental Health and Safety Training plans are developed and compliance monitored through local forums.
• Contribute to new Group policies and MAN site procedures.
• Attend and support at departmental consultative forums such as Health and Safety Local Forums
• Attend and support projects to provide technical health and safety support to meet regulatory standards.
• Prepare reports and inputs to policy updates.
• Be the main point of contact for the delivery of H&S standards within the specific directorate.
• Support and deputise the Health Safety Business Partner with implementation / management of priorities.
• Responsible for supporting change management programmes – advising managers, taking notes and supporting with all aspects of implementing change. Ensuring all system actions are completed following the change.
• To support H&S Business Partners on any H&S changes to business areas, such as collating and analysing information, ensuring all communications are correct, advising managers on stages in the process, deputising for the H&S Business partner as required.
Decision-Making

• Ensure that compliance with Procedures and Standards are maintained and lead and support the improvement required in areas where shortfalls are identified through audit or inspections.
• Ability to provide advice and guidance on low risk incidents but will be required to escalate any foreseen risks or exposure to the H&S Business Partners and/or Head of Health Safety & Fire Safety.
• Escalate any non-conformance with H&S Processes and procedures to the H&S Business partners to support with corrective actions being put in place.
• Acts in consultation with H&S Business Partners.
• Achieves success through ability to influence others, namely and managers colleagues including trade union colleagues at all levels of the organization.
• Develops best practice working environment across the Group.
• Support the investigate of safety related incidents and contractor safety incidents to identify root cause factors.
• Support the production of quality reports with conclusions and recommendations and lead and monitor the implementation of remedial actions.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

• Established Health and Safety experience, preferably dealing with complex and high hazard environments.
• Established knowledge of up to date health and safety law.
• Essential NEBOSH general certificate.
• Experience of H&S Incident management, incident investigation, risk assessment are required.
• Preferred- CPD Tech or GradIOSH or working towards.
• Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to interact at all levels of the business.
• High level of computer literacy.
• Experience of analysing information and to determine effective solutions.
• Self-motivated with a passion for health and safety and the ability to prioritise and manage demands.
