Are you an experienced SHEQ professional looking for a leadership role in a well-established organisation Do you have a strong background in health, safety, environmental, and quality management, ideally within the waste management or a related industry
Our client is seeking a SHEQ Manager to take full ownership of safety, environmental, and quality systems, ensuring compliance, best practices, and continuous improvement across multiple sites. This hands-on role requires a proactive leader who can drive SHEQ standards, enforce policies, and maintain key accreditations, including ISO standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and maintain SHEQ accreditations, including ISO standards, Safe Contractors, ConstructionLine, and PAS402.
- Oversee the Integrated Management System (IMS), ensuring accuracy and compliance across all operational areas.
- Conduct internal audits, site inspections, and risk assessments to ensure compliance with safety and environmental legislation.
- Develop and implement action plans to improve workplace safety, reduce risks, and drive a strong safety culture.
- Investigate and report on incidents, near misses, and accidents, implementing corrective actions to mitigate future risks.
- Ensure compliance with waste carrier and destination site permits, environmental regulations, and sustainability initiatives.
- Work closely with department heads, providing guidance on CDM regulations, contractor control, and permit management.
- Manage SHEQ-related staff training, compliance records, PPE, and certification requirements.
- Chair local Health & Safety and Environmental meetings, driving initiatives for continuous improvement.
- Support insurance and risk reduction initiatives, ensuring the business demonstrates improved safety year on year.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- TECH IOSH (or higher) and NEBOSH Certificate.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO standards and HSE legislation.
- At least 5 years’ experience in a front-line SHEQ role, ideally in waste, manufacturing, or logistics.
- Proven experience in audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety program implementation.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to work independently, make decisions, and drive improvements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and SHEQ management systems.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of waste industry legislation and WAMITAB certification.
- Experience applying HSE principles in waste, manufacturing, or similar high-risk environments.
- Background in writing management and board reports.
