Role Summary

Underwriting a range of moderate and simple Marine Cargo risks, working within specific authority limits on assignments of simple to moderate technical complexity.

Key Responsibilities

• Determining the acceptability of risk in accordance with company guidelines and standards.
• Recommending appropriate pricing and coverage modifications or enhancements for risks after complete analysis.
• Answering questions from Brokers and internal / external contacts, escalating issues as necessary.
• Preparing written communications on adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, underwriting requirements, status and declinations.
• Notifying Brokers of decisions as needed.
• Analysing the quality, quantity, and profitability of risks underwritten, and preparing reports for management review.
• Assisting with marketing products and services through the brokerage community, and making field visits.
• Developing and maintaining positive Broker relationships.
• Working with more senior underwriters or management on risks that exceed your authority level or require special handling.
• Assisting the wider team in servicing online client / broker certificate system.
• Updating underwriting systems.

Key Requirements

• Previous experience as a Marine Underwriter, or exposure to Marine risks.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Excellent negotiation and technical expertise.
