Senior Claims Adjuster - Med Mal / Healthcare

Role Summary

Investigating and effectively handling medium to high complex Healthcare / Medical Malpractice claims under limited technical direction. Working within specific limits of authority on assignments requiring significant technical complexity and coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a portfolio of medium to high complexity Healthcare / Medical Malpractice claims with limited supervision.
  • Interpreting more complex or unusual policy coverages, and determining if coverages apply to claims submitted, escalating as needed.
  • Coordinating and performing investigations and evaluating claims through contact with insureds, claimants, business partners, witnesses and experts. Seeking early resolution opportunities.
  • Partnering with solicitors, customers, brokers, experts and insureds to develop a focused strategy for timely and cost effective resolution of more complex claims.
  • Proactively managing claims, setting appropriate reserves in line with reserving philosophy, and authorising payments within scope of authority.
  • Utilising strong negotiation skills to develop complex settlement packages.
  • Identifying claims with third party recovery potentialand coordinating with subrogation team.
  • Analysing claims activities, and preparing / presenting reports for management. May be responsible for special projects and presentations.
  • Ensuring large and significant claims are identified at an early stage and management are notified and kept advised.
  • Providing guidance, assistance and mentoring to less experienced claims staff and other areas of the business.

Key Requirements

  • Significant claims handling experience, ideally with a focus on Medical Malpractice / Bodily Injury claims.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, enabling viable alternative solutions.
  • Understanding of underwriting risk, disciplines and processes.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to effectively interact with internal and external business partners at all levels.
