Join our client's Manchester office as a Commercial Underwriter, where you will contribute significantly to the financial and underwriting performance of the company. This role is ideal for someone with strong commercial underwriting experience, particularly in home, office, SME, and liability insurances. You will play a crucial role in enhancing overall profitability and maintaining effective trading relationships. Due to the nature of this role, Chinese language skills are essential.
Day-to-day of the role:- Underwrite existing cases and contribute to loss ratio control by adhering to the company’s underwriting controls.
- Identify reasons for lack of retention and poor conversion, and implement actions to increase retention and improve account performance in agreement with brokers.
- Liaise with external specialists, such as surveyors and loss adjusters, to update our underwriting strategy.
- Manage and recruit brokers and cover-holders in the area, building effective trading relationships through active trading activities.
- Monitor agency performance and compliance, producing monthly brokers’ performance results.
- Review and update existing arrangements and underwriting guides to ensure brokers deliver desired performance.
- Provide quotes, issue documents, respond to inquiries, and offer underwriting referral support to binding brokers.
- Assist in reviewing policy wordings, agency contracts, underwriting guides, rating structures, endorsements, and documentation as required.
- Collaborate with other departments within the company and undertake additional tasks as necessary.
- Strong commercial underwriting experience, especially in home, office, SME, and liability insurances.
- Proven ability to drive income and broker penetration to achieve business targets.
- Good knowledge of general insurance, underwriting procedures, and insurance legislations.
- Strong negotiation, interpersonal, and customer engagement skills.
- Excellent organisation and coordination skills.
- Relevant CII qualification is preferable.
- Chinese language skill is essential
