Senior Property & Casualty Underwriter

Summary

A dynamic and market leading Insurer are looking to bolster their Underwriting team in Manchester with a Senior Underwriter looking at a broad range of moderate and complex risks in a book of business. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Working with a panel of key intermediaries to manage and develop existing client accounts with support from the wider business.
  • Utilising your extensive network on key contacts you will identify new business opportunity and look to convert business in line with underwriting appetite.
  • Reviews applications and financial requirements for risks requiring sophisticated underwriting skills. Determines acceptability of risk in accordance with company guidelines and standards.
  • Determines appropriate pricing based on financial and competitive analysis in line with compliance requirements.
  • Prepares quotations and answers questions from Brokers, policyholders or other external contacts and escalates issues to management along with proposed solutions as necessary. Negotiates with Brokers to reach positive and profitable outcomes.
  • Markets products and services through the brokerage community and makes field visits. Develops and maintains Broker relationships.
  • May provide guidance and assistance to other underwriters and to other functional areas, particularly when related to cross-sell opportunities.
  • Keeps current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends and freely shares information with others.
  • Works with more senior underwriters or management on risks exceeding authority level or requiring special handling.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Strong knowledge and experience of commercial underwriting and insurance industry theories and practices.
  • Demonstrated high level of technical expertise and product specific knowledge.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels with external business partners
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong ability to identify, analyse and solve problems as well as the ability to learn rapidly, adapt quickly to change, and to manage and prioritise multiple concurrent projects.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and to make critical business decisions effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
