A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Child Care Solicitor to join a leading firm in Manchester, offering hybrid working.

You will be an important part of the team, providing expertise to parents, grandparents, other family members, interveners and children – directly or through its CAFCASS-appointed Children’s Guardian.

In this role, you will lead the department, building and developing the department and workload, with full support of management to progress and drive the department forward.

About the role:

  • Technical Expertise and Guidance: Providing support to team members and external clients
  • Management and Supervision: Overseeing solicitors, trainee solicitors and caseworkers/paralegals
  • Training and Development: Assisting with training opportunities within the team
  • Varied Duties: Handling various legal procedures and orders related to child care, such as Care Orders, Supervision Orders, Emergency Protection Orders, Adoption Orders and more
  • Representation: Representing parents, grandparents, other family members and children directly or through CAFCASS-appointed Children’s Guardians
  • Department Development: Generating work and building contacts to develop the department
  • Flexible Working Environment: Offering the freedom to work from the office, home, or any productive space of your choosing
  • Advocacy: Undertaking your own advocacy at court

About you:

  • Experience: Ideally in a multi-site, fast-paced legal business, handling a variety of child care cases
  • PQE: Between 1 to 10 years, with no upper limit on experience
  • Best Practice Knowledge: Familiarity with child care best practices
  • Guardian Following & Networks: Advantageous but not essential
  • Business Development: Strong capabilities required
  • Advocacy Experience: Advantageous but not essential
  • Personal Attributes: Positive, friendly, flexible, capable and able to build relationships quickly
  • Ethical & Sensitive: Ability to support vulnerable individuals through child care processes
  • Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal, verbal and written skills
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in time management, organisation, and computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, document management systems)
  • Case Management: Familiarity with legal case management systems
  • Legislation Knowledge: Up to date with relevant legislation, policy changes and law updates
  • Team Support: Experience in supporting junior colleagues
  • Target-Oriented: Works to ambitious targets and complies with deadlines
