Public Sector Lawyer - Manchester North West

An opportunity has arisen to join the legal team of a prominent public body dedicated to driving growth and prosperity across the North of England. This is an opportunity to influence major projects and contribute to the region's success.

Salary: £55,000 - £62,000 per annum

Location: Manchester (Hybrid). Flexible location across the North of England, with regular presence required in the Manchester office.

About the Role:

The In-house legal counsel will provide legal counsel on a diverse portfolio, including governance, compliance, procurement, and commercial law. You will:

  • Advise on public law, contracts, and information governance.
  • Draft and review legal documents.
  • Manage legal risk and ensure compliance.
  • Contribute to policy development.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Deputise for the Monitoring Officer.

Candidate Profile:

We welcome applications from ambitious lawyers with 5+ years' PQE. You may have a background in:

  • Private Practice: Experience in law firm with a strong public sector practice, specialising in local government, planning, construction, or commercial law.
  • In-house: Proven experience in a local authority, government department, or large public sector organisation, ideally working closely with the Deputy Monitoring Officer.

Essential Skills:

  • Understanding of UK public law and governance frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of contract law and procurement.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proactive and solution-oriented approach.
