A specialist criminal law firm in Manchester is seeking an experienced Legal Secretary to join their busy and dynamic team. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly experienced legal professional who thrives on organisation, adapts easily, and excels at managing multiple tasks efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare the out-of-hours police station rota and fortnightly court lists.
  • Allocate advocates to court cases, ensuring full coverage and adequate funding for each case.
  • Maintain and update the trial diary and central case management system.
  • Manage daily administrative tasks such as typing letters and attendance notes from a digital dictation system.
  • Enter all future hearings and critical dates into central diaries, coordinating with Criminal Department fee earners.
  • Chase CPS for case papers and promptly upload them to the Case Management System.
  • Deal with incoming emails and client visits, ensuring all relevant information is up-to-date.
  • Open Police Station files on the Case Management System for fee earners and agents.
  • Handle incoming police station call-outs, maintaining and regularly updating the spreadsheet.
  • Confirm any changes with Police and clients and manage client queries.
  • Liaise with fee earners, handle new enquiries, and support the wider team in delivering high-quality service.
  • Ensure Legal Aid is in place for all cases and that accurate time recording is maintained.
  • Answer the phone and assist with general office duties when needed.
Requirements:
  • Significant legal secretarial experience, preferably in criminal law.
  • Highly organised, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication skills and excellent client care abilities.
  • Familiarity with case management systems and digital dictation systems.
