Maintenance Engineer | Manchester | £65,000 per annum
The Opportunity:
An exciting opportunity has arisen with one of the UK’s leading rolling stock businesses to join their team as an Maintenance Engineer. With their overhaul engineering function transitioning inhouse, our client has commissioned the build of a state of the art overhaul facility which will be the first of its kind for their business.
The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for implementing key facility infrastructure whilst ensuring operational efficiency through effective maintenance. During the early stages of the project, the Maintenance Engineer will define the facilities systems/ equipment’s layout, specifications for equipment and systems and also compile maintenance procedures. After this initial phase, these responsibilities shift to continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities:
The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for managing maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with regulations and continuously optimising equipment reliability. The role includes reviewing facility design, planning materials and external services, providing technical support, and maintaining the technical library. They will monitor resource usage, conduct audits, and develop reports to improve performance. Additionally, there will be engagement in training and refining maintenance procedures while supporting broader business initiatives.
Candidate Essentials:
- Maintenance Engineering Experience – Preferably in the railway industry, working with heavy equipment like lathes, wheelset presses, welding, and overhead cranes.
- Strong Planning & Organization – Proven ability to plan and structure tasks effectively.
- Technical Procedure Analysis & Writing – Skilled in reviewing, analysing, and authoring technical documentation.
- Problem-Solving Tools – Experience using methodologies such as 5W2H and 5 Whys.
- Maintenance Methodologies – Familiarity with Total Productive Maintenance and Autonomous Maintenance.
- Technical Proficiency – PC literate, with the ability to quickly learn new technologies and software programs.
Qualifications:
- Level 6 Engineering Degree or higher
- will consider HNC/D (level 4/5) in Engineering with strong and relevant experience.
