My client is a leading UK logistics company, specialising in next-day and same-day delivery of air and sea freight, and the distribution of heavy and dangerous consignments within the UK. They are currently looking for a transport planner for their Birmingham depot, to assist in organising, directing, and coordinating the activities of all drivers, and the resources necessary for the safe, efficient, and economic movement of freight through their distribution system. This role involves working with the transport and warehouse teams, providing efficient management of the depot. In addition, quoting nationally and handling bookings via the Haulier Exchange platform, maximising revenue for the company.

(Transport Planner) - Position Overview

To effectively plan direct and co-ordinate the activities of all Drivers and the resources necessary the activities of PAYE Drivers, Independent Service Providers (ISP's), Agency Drivers for the safe, efficient and economic movement of freight through the company's distribution system. All planning will be completed using the inhouse system for same day movements

(Transport Planner) - Position Requirements

  • Planning experience essential, good geographical knowledge of the UK.
  • Ensuring loads are planned on correct vehicles, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Answering inbound calls from customers and all drivers quickly and efficiently.
  • Planning to ensure internal & external KPI's are met.
  • Receiving telephone and email instructions from clients and recording relevant details. accurately on the company's data management system.
  • Maintaining customer service levels at the highest standard by ensuring a rapid response to their requirements.
  • Identifying needs and establishing client requirements.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve service and share with Depot Manager.
  • Ensuring that regulations regarding hours of work, the operational safety and efficiency of the company and ISP vehicles and other statutory regulations are complied with together with the submission of all necessary forms pertaining to the company's BSI record system and management reports.
  • Ensuring minimal waste of resources and securing value for money especially in the area of subcontractor haulage.
  • Sign out vehicle keys and PDA's to drivers.
  • Maintain effective communication with the warehouse team to ensure there are minimum loading issues.

  • Salary Range: £30k to £32k
  • Monday - Friday
  • 04:00am - 14:00pm, including a 1-hour unpaid break. Contractual 45 hours a week.
  • 25 days holiday, plus bank holidays
  • 4 weeks (after probation)
  • Auto enrolment pension
