- Band: 5
- Location: Manchester
- Duration: Initial 3 months (with potential for extension)
- Schedule: Three days a week
- Start Date: ASAP
- Pay Rate: £34 per hour
As a mental health nurse working in a prison, you’ll play a crucial role in supporting some of society’s most vulnerable individuals. Every day will bring new challenges and opportunities to make a difference. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assessing Mental Health Needs: Conduct comprehensive assessments to understand patients' mental health conditions, ensuring tailored care plans are in place.
- Medication Administration: Deliver prescribed medications at scheduled times, ensuring compliance and addressing any related concerns or side effects.
- Building Trusting Relationships: Engage in meaningful conversations with patients, offering support and empathy to help them navigate their mental health challenges.
- Crisis Management: Provide immediate intervention during mental health crises, collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the safety and well-being of the individual and others.
- Risk Assessments: Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential harm to self or others, implementing appropriate safeguards within the prison environment.
- Promoting Rehabilitation: Work collaboratively with prison staff to support the rehabilitation process, focusing on improving patients' mental health and preparing them for reintegration into society.
- NMC Registration: Active registration as a mental health nurse.
- Prison Clearance: Valid and up-to-date clearance to work within a prison setting.
- Relevant Experience: Prior experience working in a prison or secure environment.
- Strong Communication Skills: Ability to build rapport with patients and collaborate effectively with colleagues.
- Adaptability: Capacity to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.
