Job Overview

Equitas are seeking a reliable and proactive Part-Time Caretaker. This role is critical in ensuring the smooth and safe start of the school day by opening the premises and preparing it for students, staff, and visitors.

The ideal candidate will have a strong sense of responsibility, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work independently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Opening the school each morning:
    • Unlock all main gates, doors, and facilities as required.
    • Conduct a morning inspection to ensure the premises are secure and ready for use.
  • Health and Safety Checks:
    • Carry out daily checks to ensure the building and grounds are safe for students and staff.
    • Report any potential hazards or maintenance issues promptly.
  • General Maintenance:
    • Perform minor repairs (e.g., fixing loose fixtures, changing light bulbs).
    • Arrange for and supervise contractors for larger maintenance tasks when necessary.
  • Cleaning and Tidying:
    • Ensure external areas (e.g., pathways, playgrounds) are clear of debris.
    • Respond to any immediate cleaning needs, such as spills or hazards.
  • Security:
    • Monitor and report any unusual activity during morning hours.
    • Ensure all doors and gates are securely locked after completing morning tasks if required.
  • Stock and Supplies Management:
    • Ensure cleaning and maintenance supplies are adequately stocked and report any shortages.

Person Specification

  • Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated.
  • Basic DIY and maintenance skills.
  • Awareness of health and safety procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills and a professional attitude.
  • Previous experience in a similar role (desirable but not essential).
