About the Role

Equitas are seeking a highly motivated and reliable School Caretaker to join a dedicated team. As the School Caretaker, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the school is clean, safe, and well-maintained, providing a conducive learning environment for both students and staff.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with practical skills and a strong sense of responsibility who takes pride in their work. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently, maintain high standards of cleanliness and security, and be proactive in addressing maintenance needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake routine repairs, maintenance, and minor building work.
  • Ensure the premises are secure at all times, including opening and closing the building, checking locks and alarms, and monitoring access points.
  • Maintain cleanliness of classrooms, corridors, staff rooms, restrooms, and outdoor spaces.
  • Perform regular health and safety checks, ensuring all areas are free from hazards.
  • Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies, maintenance materials, and general school stock.
  • Assist with setting up rooms for assemblies, events, and meetings as needed.
  • Liaise with and supervise external contractors on site, ensuring that any works are completed to standard.

Essential Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS check (mandatory for working in schools).
  • Proven experience in a caretaking, maintenance, or facilities management role (experience in a school environment is desirable).
  • Strong practical skills, including basic repairs and maintenance.
  • Excellent knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative, take responsibility, and solve problems.
  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, approachable demeanor.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing requirements and priorities.
